CNY 2008
HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR 2008!!!
yep, today is the first day of the year of RATS. eew! ;p i never understand why chinese people put rats as one of their symbol of life.
well, there’s gotta be something going on between those old chinese people with rats a long time ago. either they had some kind of an agreement or maybe there’s a giant chinese rat that once conquered chinese people so they had to live with rats’ lifestyle.
anyway, i’m actually not really celebrating chinese new year. i am a chinese though, but the chinese tradition does not run in my family anymore. it was because the previous government of my home country (which obviously is not china ;p) that banned anything that has connection with chinese cultures or traditions. although the current government no longer bans those chinese cultures, i’m just too lazy to study all of those stuff anymore. i still eat rice, though ;p
i also still believe that a new year means a new beginning. that’s why i start this blogging thing again haha.. let just see how long it is going to last.
CNY’s eve in melbourne last night was pretty fun.. and busy for most restaurants. and like everybody else, we (me, my gf, and some other friends) did go out and eat. after attending ash wednesday mass, we went out for ‘restaurant hunting’. i call it ‘hunting’ coz we didn’t have any reservation yet and we knew that most restaurants in chinatown were going to be fully booked. but we just wanna know if we could still get a place hehe.
after getting rejected by 5 or 6 restaurants, we finally got a place. but, another problem arose: some of us were fasting coz it’s ash wednesday and it’s an obligation for catholics to fast on that day. so we ended up rotating seats and making groups. group A filled with people who were going to eat meat and group B was for those who weren’t.
so far it was the weirdest CNY dinner i’ve ever had.. but hopefully this year is not going to be the weirdest.. ^_^
